  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently, I’m working on a project using voice recognition software – I’m one of the software developers on the team and really enjoy the challenge of working with this new exciting technology. I work also work with Amazon Alexa and develop applications that are pushing the boundaries and changing the way people interact with voice assistants.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Qa (The training provider) has helped me build a solid skill set over the past 3 years, this includes technical skills such as mobile and web development, Web application security as well as business-related skills. Some of the more interesting skills I have learned in my role at Accenture is developing applications for Amazon Alexa while also becoming an expert in many AWS services. This is important to me because I plan to become AWS certified as an architect or developer in the near future.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Accenture?
  • I have a great team that gave me more support than I ever could have asked for, they recently nominated me for the London Accentutre apprentice of the year award and i am delighted i came 2nd place. my team and I get along so well and when you find people who you become good friends within work it really makes the whole experience much more enjoyable. Some of my colleagues have also been very supportive and helped throughout my time at Accenture. It is definitely a place you will find like-minded, motivated and interesting people.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure for training has improved massively over the last year, my only comment is that some of the assignments that need to be completed are not relevant to the role I am currently in at Accenture, meaning if I am in a technical software engineering role, it is difficult for me to produce evidence for an assignment relating to data analytics. Apart from that, the training is great.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Support is generally only an email away through the VLE (Virtual learning environment) which allows you to view all your courses, content and assignments that are due. This also allows easy communication to your module or subject tutor. You can also schedule meetings with tutors if extra help is needed. Generally most questions would be answered in the face to face training days. Sometimes WebEx's or meetings will be set up by a tutor online for students to join the live stream and ask questions.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Accenture has a great system in place for helping employees resolve issues. Your career counselor will be able to answer most of your queries but if they don't know the answer you can always contact HR.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As we all know living in London can be very expensive but at level 5 my salary is sufficient and after rent and living costs are paid for I definitely have enough for spending and enjoying myself. I am also nearly finished my level 5, which means I only have a few months left until I am on graduate salary! and remember, because its an apprenticeship, there's no nasty debt to pay back for my last 3 years of learning!

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There's a tonne of events to go to when you work at Accenture, personally, I have been to lots of events to encourage younger people to consider a career in technology with Accenture. I have helped the recruitment team out so many times with advocating apprenticeships and I enjoy trying to get people excited about tech! a few months ago I got to be in a photoshoot for QA apprenticeships for their summer campaign, a few weeks later I was scrolling through facebook and saw an advert with a picture of me! I was also interviewed live on sky news, where I spoke about my reasons for choosing an apprenticeship over university and the opportunities that have been presented to be because of that. So in short, yes, there are many opportunities outside of work if you have the right attitude and are willing to go above and beyond.

  • 9. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • If you are serious about becoming an expert in something and you are highly motivated, do an apprenticeship; the practical experience is priceless. I think apprenticeships are only going to become more popular as people start to realise that a good apprenticeship scheme will put you on the road to success. I also know that because of my apprenticeship and my attitude, more doors have been opened to me – one example of this is when I was interviewed live on Sky News about my experience.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • Make sure you read some case studies if you want to get a better idea of what Accenture does. If you are truly passionate about technology, make sure you make it known in the interview. Talk about fantastic innovations in the tech industry and show passion. A willingness to learn will go a long way.
