  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My official job title is 'Civil Apprentice'. My day to day tasks include assisting the Engineers with any tasks with which they need help. I regularly communicate with others within my team and on occasion I will speak with people from other companies we are working with. My responsibilities, at the moment, are to carry out utility diversion cost estimates and carrying out Carbon assessments. I am currently working on one project at the moment but I have assisted in tasks on other projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am constantly learning new skills and developing existing ones. from using CAD to MM's Carbon Portal tool, I have had a great experience in a variety of tasks using different tools within the work place. Additionally, I also attend college on a weekly basis and through college I learn about many different aspects of Engineering which I would not normally learn in the workplace and I have had opportunity to use these skills learned at college in the workplace.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my Apprenticeship programme. I enjoy the work I do on a day to day basis and the team/colleagues I work with a great to get along with. It has more than met my expectations when I first came into the role.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mott MacDonald?
  • I feel greatly valued by Mott MacDonald and, in particular,the team I work with. I recieve praise and recognition from those I work with and I feel the task I am doing matter to the overall project.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is structured effectively. There is a clear direction of which I am expected to progress in. Training is easily available and reelvant to what I need to develop. If I need any additional support from colleagues, they are always willing to help and assist me when I ask.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider are always on standby to help me with any issues I need help with. I can expect a reply with a day to any issue and they are extremely helpful and supportive. They provide clear guidance for issues raised and will regularly check up on em to make sure things are ok.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is always ready to help me with anything I require assistance with. My colleagues are always willing to help and provide me with feedback and a clear direction to work towards. They are extremely helpful and happy to help at all times.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary currently meets what I need. I have no complaints.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are plently of opportunites outside of work for me. There are external and internal events which I can get invlovled in any time I wish and there are plently of clubs within the workplace that are welcoming to new members.

  • Yes

  • It is a fantastic company to work for. The tasks I do are intersting to get involved in and challeging to always push me to be better.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Be confident that you can get the job. Don't overload your CV when applying; keep it clear, concise and straight to the point. If you have any relevant experience in the industry make sure to always refer back to that in the interview and walk in with the mentality that you will get the job you're applying for but make sure to not be overconfident.
