  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a first year maintenance technician it is college full time.During your time at college you compete a PEO level 2 as well as completing a BTEC level 3 qualification.The fist year allows you to understand the basics required to set the ground knowledge for the following four years of the apprenticeship. The rest of the three years are then spent at plant Hams Hall completing 3 month placements in different areas in order to receive a insight of all areas of the company.During this time you become more specific to your job role gathering the required understanding needed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Prior to Apprenticeship i had never completed any of the stuff which i have now learnt therefore i have gained a lot of skills including turning,milling,bench fitting and many other units which prior to this i had no knowledge about. However even with these new skills gained i still believe there are may other skills which are still yet to be learnt as i continue through my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme which i am currently undergoing.It allows you to develop the required skills in a company which has many opportunities. In addition to this the people who i work with also make the programme a more pleasant experience throughout.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • I feel very valued by the BMW Group as we have been introduced to the company from the start making us feel welcome and involved with the internal environment of the business even when we are at college outside of plant.I feel like we have a lot of involvement as we are able to come into the business and complete tasks which are valued to try and help the business improve for the better making us feel once again valued by the BMW Group.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is organised very efficiently.There is a lot of support offered by the company no matter what the issue is which is a positive as it makes you feel comfortable.In addition to this we clearly follow a timetable in order to complete all required units in set time periods in order to achieve the required qualifications at the end ,therefore overall the programme is very well structured.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is a lot of support provided by our training provider.If there are any problems there is a set procedure to follow in order to resolve the problem quickly and efficiently.In addition to this all lecturers are happy to assist any problem which may occur during our time we spend at the college which is a positive aspect.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a huge amount of support provided by BMW Group as they will provide the best possible support in order to help you achieve the most out of the four year apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The competitive salary which is provided to me as a apprentice full fills my costs comfortably especially for my age.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes there are many opportunities which arise within the company which i have already experienced. I am sure there will also be many more opportunities which will arise in the future too as speaking from other peoples previous experiences.

  • It is a good company which provides a competitive salary and has a high reputation for the apprentice training scheme.In addition to this there are numerous opportunities within the company to grow and develop skills.I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship and would recommend to anyone looking for this field of employment.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • I would advise you to prepare for any interviews or assessment days which you may encounter as they can be quite challenging.Even if you have done similar interviews/assessment days ensure you are well educated about the company due to that being a key aspect in these activities.Be prepared and good luck!
