  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an engineering apprentice, for the first year of the course I have been attending college full time for 6 months , after the first 6 months I then began to work onsite in my allocated department (oral solid dose) assisting the engineering technicians with daily tasks learning calibrations and general maintenance but over the course of the 4 years I am rotated around all engineering based departments in the company.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt and developed numerous engineering skills, such as hand fitting tasks , milling turning and performing electrical and electronic tasks. I've developed my knowledge of engineering through the level 3 course. I have also developed my network through meeting apprentices across the whole company in other disciplines not only engineering

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme I am on , due to how it allows me to develop my knowledge and skill set. Meet new people and be part of a company enabling people to "do more feel better and live longer" overall being highly rewarding

  • 4. How valued do you feel by GSK?
  • I personally feel like a valued part of the company, members of staff are welcoming and show appreciation. We are given tasks and projects to undertake that have a physical impact on the consumer at the end of the supply chain developing trust between the managers and apprentices .

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is well organised on behalf of GSK they do everything they can to ensure we achieve and gain as much as possible over the course of the programme however attending college is slightly unorganised but GSK is not to blame due to this but you just have to make the best out of it and work through it. mentors meet us to have meetings regarding how were coping with workload and any issues can be discussed during this. if you ever have an issue your line manager will do everything they can to help you out

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider supports me as best as they can as if you have the attitude that you want to achieve the best you can and put In the best of your ability the lecturers are more inclined to assist you if you show a genuine interest in the subject area. for example for the PEO course so I could have it completed by the specified deadline my tutor came in over half term so I could complete all the work.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager supports me as much as I can he's flexible and regularly checks up with me to see my progress and just in general how I'm getting on. He always is aiming to improve the structure of the course for current and future apprentices to ensure you gain as much as you can if you struggle with something it Is better to speak up and express you are struggling or behind opposed to keeping it to yourself as you should always be transparent and If you are managers will do everything they can to help you

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary sufficiently meets my costs we are paid a competitive wage , it covers all my expenses and allows me to save money every month

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are numerous opportunities available outside of work for example networking with other GSK apprentices on social events allowing you to meet new people across the company , for example on the 1st year apprentice trip. I signed up to become a STEM ambassador a voluntary action allowing me to become more involved in the STEM community influencing people interested in future careers involving STEM

  • 9. Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • the numerous benefits the company gives to the employees, and opportunities available to apprentices allowing them to continuously develop through out the course of the apprenticeship. and the company and line managers catering the apprenticeship specifically for individual apprentices


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • really express within the application what makes you fit for gsk express your hobbies and link to the gsk values, always be yourself and if you're not sure if you should apply there is no harm in applying as you will not loose anything by applying
