  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • General CAD work unsing revit, some electrical, mechnical and public health tasks depening on the project, each projects different at the minute working on a hotel however can be offices or residential buildings. have to communicte with engineers and attend team meeting to keep updated on work and which projects are coming up and whats next. Also includes 1 day a week in college with 12 units over 2 years and NVQ of 9 units to be completed in the year

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • yes, i have learned alot how to use revit and autocad, ive leant how to insert objects and how to chnage the properties, ive learnt abou the stages which a building plan goes through, also who is inviolved with the projects this can be clients, architects, designers and alot more are involved when the build takes place such as suppliers local couucils. also i have atended health and safety course, amd attend lunchtime CPDs to gain knowledge about companies and products

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i enjoy work as i am leanring everyday and getting paid to learn. i enjoy being in the office environment with a group of differnet people all with different skills, i have th echance to move aroud and work in differnt offices and attend training courses, i also have the opportunity to go on site.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • I feel valued because I know that i have responsiblities for example I know that i am appreciated because im am given certain tasks and trusted to complete them to the expected standards in the time given. I am given the chance to be involved in a range of projects and given the opportunity to learn new skills

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very stuctured as i attend collge 1 day a week and i complete my college assignments. i attened an apprentice week to eease into the role and met the other apprentices. I have lot sof support within my team and i attend monthly meetings with my mentor to keep up with my progress on my college work, everday work and NVQ

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I recieve all the support i can in work whether this is with everday tasks or NVQ work or college work. Everyone is here to help amd very supportive. Also i have support with eveyday porblems lots of people are on hand to help. I have support from stegta too who help with my college and try to help with any probems that i have there.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have support from my manager completely with anything everyda work college or NVQ ther is alsways time to talk and help. I think i gain alot of skills from working with others as they can show you what you need to do and correct you when you make mistakes whihc you can always learn from.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary covers my costs quite well. There are opportunities fro work to help out with cost sfor example i can get help with buying a yearly railpass which i can pay back over the year which works out cheaper than the monthly cost. Also there is the profit share scheme and Arup contributes to my pesnion whihc is also useful.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there are lots of opportunites outside work. there are so ma ny activies which take place regularly whihc people in work host such as climbing, football or general work socials. there is always the chance to do things which can be suggested at any time and can include everyone. Activities can also involve the lcoal comminuty such a s visiting schools.

  • 9. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes, I think that Arup gives many opportunities to young people especially. The scheme i am on allows me to work and learn at the same time and go through university at no cost.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • Maybe seem insterested in an aspect of the company, have some knowledge regarding the sector. Have experice working iwth people and working in a team and working to deadlines
