  • Home Underwriting Analyst Review policy documentation to ensure compliant with current FCA requirements, updating where appropriate. Supporting tenders for new schemes and renewal of existing schemes by carrying out high level or in depth analysis of policy covers/limits, terms & conditions. Handling high level complex underwriting referrals. Signing off marketing literature from technical viewpoint. Providing expert advice, guidance and coaching to less experienced/qualified colleagues. Working on projects such as new product builds

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT - attained a pass for the BCS Level 4 Diploma in Data Analysis Concepts. As part of the Data Analyst apprenticeship I've learnt about various data analysis tools such as SQL, data warehousing and data bases. I've also expanded my knowledge of excel and how it can be used for data analysis and presenting results.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Despite the classroom study provided by Arch Apprentices being disorganised I have learnt about data analytics and enjoyed the interaction with students from other companies and within RSA. It hasn't full met my expectations as it wasn't clear from the outset how much it relied on the persons day to day work being in line with the syllabus for the data analyst course or how much time would be needed off the job to complete the course. Also, the course is being changed as we are studying.

  • I feel very highly valued by my line manager and his manager. They are trying to support me by providing the necessary data / tasks to enable me to meet the requirements of the course.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction was poor as it involved people who were studying a number of different courses. The company providing the apprenticeship had IT issues the day of the induction but didn't tell the apprentices. The mentor system is inconsistent - staff from each company are allocated a mentor/learning development coach, however the information being provided is inconsistent. classroom study is disorganised - 2nd classroom study session was tutored by someone who had only worked at Arch Apprentices for 1 week prior to the course. The tutor wasn't aware of what was covered in the 1st classroom study session.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Tutor's initial visit was 2 months after the course started, he didn't was unable to provide a syllabus for the course to assist with areas of study.

  • Only met with HR team 5 months after the course started. Manager is supportive & is trying to ensure I get access to the type of data needed to assist with the course.
