  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a service and quality coach - I train new and current staff within HSBC. I take new starters from the initial day 1 for around a 6 week training course covering all different topics. I teach them about the invoice finance facility all the way to how we manage risk with out clients and how we collect debt in for our clients and hsbc.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I haven't started the programme properly yet as having issues accessing the system. It always asks me to reset my password but when I try to do this it doesn't seem to work. I have sent an email to Kaplan team to try and get this reset as I am keen to start.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by HSBC?
  • I feel very valued by my employed and I appreciate the way my performance is discuss on a one to one basis monthly . There is an internal recognition system called at our best which colleagues use to recognise each other which is an excellent way to show each other that we feel valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I unable to comment on this yet as I have been unable to start due to system access issues. I have been in contact with my talent coach to let them know this is happening. I am pleased with the responses I am getting with my talent coach and I can see she will be happy to support me in the tasks I am doing when I come to getting started.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I unable to comment on this as of yet as I have been unable to access the system and get started on the programme. My mentor has a good attitude to supporting me and I know she will be helpful once I get on the system. I have arranged an initial introduction call with her to get to know each other.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my manager is very supportive and keen for me to complete the apprenticeship programme and she is happy to support me with any extra work I have. My mentor was very supportive in helping me get started on the programme and very informative on what different apprenticeships were available for me. I have not yet spoken to any HR teams about my apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I have not had any extra costs from doing the programme. My general wage almost covers my general living costs and daily costs. I find I have to use my overdraft a lot of the time in order to meet basic living costs but this is not to do with the apprenticeship scheme it is more an impact from my employer.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are try me days at hsbc which give you the opportunities to have overviews in other departments which could give you an idea of other places you may want to work later in your career. HSBC also offer an corporate social responsibly day where you can volunteer off site at various places in the local community for 1 day each year.

  • Yes

  • I think it is a good company to work for with lots of opportunities


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • I would say to ensure you look at the application process in a lot of detail to ensure you have put all the relevant information on it that HSBC will be looking at when offering interviews. Its important to be be open, honest and just like yourself. the on boarding process can sometimes be long so try to get all the information that the on boarding team require to them quickly.
