  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role as a Apprentice Surveyor in the Commercial Property Industry, no two days are the same. I could be in a client meeting, out inspecting buildings, report writing and much more. The industry is a very social industry its about knowing people. Internally there is a great company culture and yes, this is a very large company but I feel as though I am a individual and not just a number in a large machine. I truly feel that Cushman & Wakefield care about their employees. Everyone is extremely nice and they make the workplace fun. I have been given a lot of responsibility at times it being either running my own jobs or interactions with clients. I do not feel I was ever held back in any roles because of how junior i was. I have worked on many different types of projects in different departments during my time at Cushman & Wakfield (as you rotate and spend time is all different departments) from overseeing a European property portfolio for a corporate client or acquiring office space for small to large occupiers. As said, no two days are the same and this what I truly love about C&W and this industry!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I honestly love every part of my job. I do a lot of schools outreach and I say every-time "I do not care if I have to be up at 4am to travel somewhere or get home at 10pm or later, I absolutely love my job and nothing I do is bad/horrible work or even too much effort!" The people, the job, the company, the culture have all been so fantastic for me. I had no idea what to expect (really) when I arrived day one, I just believed it would be very normal and I shouldn't look any senior person in the eyes..... but honestly, the CEO pretty much sits on a open desk just like everyone else! Senior partners make jokes and even make the tea!

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Cushman & Wakefield?
  • I feel valued in many ways. I feel valued that I understand when a job/task is given to me to do I know what it is contributing too. My managers are very good at formal and informal good/bad feedback. I get internal recognition for my whatever I contribute in my team or the wider business. I feel valued that I know I am trusted to carry out task or communicate with a client but also that when I ask for help people honestly want to help me because they care and not just because they have too!

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is very well organised in a formal structure. It is a lengthy program compared to other types of apprenticeships but the qualification you get at the end is a membership to a world wide profession as well as a university degree!

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider such as the university is accessible to tutors and mentoring regarding the coursework. C&W also provide further inhouse training alongside the University training. The overall course provides you with theoretical knowledge to apply to your job.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • C&W, I believe, provide extensive support! Whether that be from your line manager, your team, fellow or older apprentices, your allocated buddy or even HR. There are many routes/people available to help in all capacities, personally, work related or University related!

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Yes, the training you are receiving such a whole University degree is a substantial amount when added to your salary. The Salary is enough to cover travel and general costs. I have enough to afford a car, travel and other basic cost. You wont be living the high life but if you work hard enough it is easy to progress once qualified so its worth the wait!

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities outside of work. We have company or team social events. Cushman & Wakefield sponsor a young persons networking organisation called CREation (https://www.cre-ation.co.uk) who provide fun, free interactive networking events. You get allocated days in a year that you can take as volunteering opportunities. We have sporting clubs, yoga lessons! Our offices are in some great locations like our London WestEnd office is located next to Selfridges and Oxford Street (plenty of great restaurants and shopping opportunities)

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cushman & Wakefield?
  • Make your self a person and not a applicant! My contact with all you can. Attend insight and open days, do you research! I know some people apply to many different apprenticeships but try your upmost to repost the same answers / applications as I am sure alot of recruiters can spot a generic application. Take you time and show that you have put in a lot of effort. Make it tailor to that company. Also research the company!
