  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Job title is as a Trainee Client Manager. I work within the Professional Services Group in Aon, dealing with clients in the professional world, such as Accountants, Solicitors etc. My particular role involves me helping to facilitate the renewal of existing clients' PI policies, dealing with their everyday queries and helping to meet client's needs and expectations. I am actively wokring towards my own professional development, gaining a qualification, trying to expand my own limitaitions within my role and also seeking knowledge regarding other areas of Aon which I am able to view.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work is varied and my team is excellent. It is a friendly working environment, but high standard work is expected. The company culture tends towards favouring the clients over employees, but this is being rectified. I feel that the programme was not advertised as clearly as it could have been but overall I am enjoying my job for now.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aon?
  • Appreciation from managers and more senior colleagues is given, but sparsely. Personal involvement within projects is high, but feeling of value leaves something to be desired.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction for first two weeks was fantastic. Well organised, and catered to what young individuals entering the world of work for the first time needed. Training for job role is alwasys helpful and in terms of studying and support for qualification has been efficient and well organised in order for us to achieve the best results. The mentor system was implemented, but is flawed as time is major factor (mentors tend to be senior colleagues with busy work schedules).

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Support is great, all relevant materials provided, revision notes excellent. Enjoyed the studying very much, although the practical assessment seemed slightly irrelevant considering another exam would have saved time and been easier.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Managers respect that we are part of a scheme but sometimes it is difficult to get across that we are actively studying for a qualification at the same time. They tend to be generally supportive however. We are encouraged to improve our own professional develepment, but they are willing to help support us.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Poorly. We were not told about the length of the initial salary and were also not told about the planned increased to intial salary across the board, regardless of performance. This I feel has been a major failing via this scheme.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many company events due to Aon;s large branding, many of which I have had the opportuniy to attend. There have also been tiems for me to attend Manchester United football matches due to the link between the club and Aon.

    8/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would, purely for the fact that it is a great alternative to university and a good chance to get started in the working world. The roles could be better advertised and the salary needs tweaking majorly, but the study side is brilliant and the opportunity for develeopment in such a large company is high.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Be as honest and open as possible. On the assessment day, comes acorss as confident but not arrogant and showcase your strengths. Be prepared for the long haul as the development process is lengthy but maybe worthwhile.
