My role is a light vehicle apprentice technician and I normally do services and a little bit of diag with my mentor. I have a few chores to do every morning but I jut crack on and get them done. The skills I learn doing this job I take away from work and apply them for my own learning benefit and gain a bit more experience.
I have learnt a varying scale of skills the main few I've learnt are how to use Elsa properly and odis as well which are the main programmes we techs use. I have also learnt some stuff like customer skills and also this job has improved my social skills as at the start I wouldn't talk a lot but now I don't shut up.
I love this apprenticeship ive learnt so much and I really appreciate my manager letting me join straight out of school at 16. when I started I knew nothing about cars but now I know a lot. I mainly enjoy it because every day I lean something different to do with service or diag or mechanical, as everyone tells me every day is a school day.
I do feel valued by the Volkswagen group as ultimately they have been pushing me through this course and if I ever needed help with an assignment they would be right there to help me
This programme is well structured. I say this because at the start its simple and easy to get your head round but in the 2nd and 3rd year it gets a bit more complex but they till teach me everything that is relevant to my job role
I get a lot of support as if I ever get suck with something a can ask my trainer and get a response that day.
I have had plenty of support from my employer as the sheets of work my vla gives me I can just smash out and they let me do it even if it takes me a while
I still live at home so all I really pay for is my car so I do earn plenty but I do find my self a bit tight for money coming towards pay day
When I don't work I normally help my mates with their car problems with the skills I have learnt here at the NLC
Yes
They are always there when I'm stuck on something like an assignment or on leap and they always give me advise
The advise I'd give is do the assignments as soon as you get them other wise you panic and forget about what you are meant to do
