  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as a trainee accountant, with my standard day to day jobs revolving around auditing clients work and financial statements. I work with a number of people from my department and have to go out on site all over the country at a variety of clients, interacting with them regularly. As I am still fairly junior and inexperienced, I often have to perform the simpler tasks that do not require as deep an understanding of the subject matter, but senior colleagues will help me work through more complex areas so that I am able to tackle these on my own and gain a better understanding of the job and all that it entails.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my interpersonal skills and learnt a great deal about audit and methodology that my company adopts. The company is keen to ensure that we are as up to date with skills and information as possible, although occasionally these training sessions are not early enough. Having said that, I appreciate these sessions must be organised for a great deal of people which is very difficult when so many people have so much going on.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme, especially with regards to meeting new people in a variety of business sectors where no two clients are the same. This keeps things fresh and exciting and allows me to develop an understanding of what makes companies successful/unsuccessful!

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mazars LLP?
  • I like to think I am well valued at Mazars. People are appreciative if you are willing to work hard or go the extra distance, and in turn, when you do this they are happy to return the favour. The company also arranges several social activities and events that act almost as a reward for the work you do and allow you to spend time with colleagues outside of the working environment.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is fairly well structured although things are not always communicated very effectively. This is obviously an issue but equally I appreciate the team that is responsible have to do this for hundreds of people and so when difficulties arise I take an open minded approach as any queries and issues I have the team are very fast to respond and help me as much as they can.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Fortunately, I have not yet required a great deal of support but I am offered support by the provider of the service on a regular basis, and they have specialist tutors who are more than happy to help in any way they can. It seems that they want you to succeed to the greatest degree possible, and so the support seems genuine and is obviously greatly appreciated.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Fortunately, I have not yet required a great deal of support but have been offered plenty by various people within the company, ranging from people who are there to provide these services, to colleagues who are happy to help me in a variety of areas at no obvious benefit to themselves. I find this really helpful, and it is lovely to know that should I need the help, it will be there for me!

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I find that because I live away from home the salary package is not ideal for meeting my costs, but equally, I could cut costs in a number of ways that would help me in this area. Due to the nature of my job, I do a lot of travelling and the company is very good with allowing me to reclaim expenses in a number of ways to account for the fact that I may be away from home or travelling much further than would normally be the case.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of opportunities outside of work, I have joined the committee of a student society that consists of other people in a similar role to myself. There are plenty of opportunities outside of work if you are willing to put in a little bit of effort and go find them!

  • 9. Would you recommend Mazars LLP to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company has lots of likeminded people where they are friendly and happy to help you out in any way they can. It is hard work, but rewarding and the companies ethos is a good one. There is a great social side to the company that helps integrate different teams, which as a member of the external audit team I found very important as I would not usually get a chance to do this because I am often not in the office!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mazars LLP?
  • Be sociable and give it everything you have got and you will reap the rewards and everything the company has to offer.
