  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Network Engineer Apprentice. I look after the Virgin Media network by maintaining, fixing and building it. I do not often interact with customers unless I am fixing a fault where I would then let the customer know that the faut has been fixed. My job varies day to day, I could be completing either faults, Optimization tickets and maintenance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt an enormous amount of knowledge from this job about things that I didn't even know existed. Aside from the knowledge I have learnt it has made me a better person in terms of my time management, motivation and jus general work ethic. I have been provided with many training courses that the company has paid for such as ECS, NASWR and general course online that improve my knowledge.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My apprentice manager is great, he will always pick the phone up and if he doesn't will always call you back. He will make sure he goes out of his way to make sure that you are having the best experience with the scheme and any help that I need.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is great he always helps me out if I ever have a problem or need something. My mentor is also great and we have actually become good friends inside and outside of work. Also the HR team is good because in March I contracted wells disease and almost every day someone was ringing me making sure that I was fine/getting better as well as making sure that I had a doctor ring me up to check on me too.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is really good for an apprenticeship, it allows me to do so much outside of work such as afford a £372 a month car and other things. I do not pay for anything that involves work and if I do then it is always reimbursed which I cannot complain about at all. The only bad thing is that I would have to go on call which would mean for a week at a time not being able to leave home.
