  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned how to communicate effectively within a team and also as an individual. I have learned how to work a very productive pace to keep the business operating as smooth as possible. I have developed how to deal with different people within the workplace due to those being with a disability or speech impairment.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • I feel valued at Aldi because the workplace feels very family orientated and also everyone is treated fairly. I am constantly praised about my work and always given criticism on where and how to improve if needed. Aldi are also a great company that employ those that are willing to be up for the challenge regardless of their background or ethnicity.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised. I have a year to do 6 workbooks and have them completed. My teacher comes out to me in store and evaluates my work and goes through it. He also will observe me to make sure I am following the correct health and safety procedures that are in place. My tutor will sit down with me and go over my work and give me any help I may need.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My tutor gives me enough support and so does Aldi. Aldi allocate "off production hours" where I am taught by a manager for a number of hours on how to run the store and how to also control a situation. My tutor gives me enough support by contacting me every so often and seeing how my work is going. I will spend him my completed workbooks and he will send back any feedback he has given to me.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer as previously stated, allocates off production hours to ensure I am being given the correct training and to also ensure that I understand everything that is going on. Anything new that goes on in the store we are given information on.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is great. I am near enough on double the amount of the minimum wage that is given to apprentices. I am also given a very spread out Rota to ensure that social time and work time is even. Aldi are very generous in giving more to apprentices, they recognise their hard work and reward their workers.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities outside of work. I believe that my apprenticeship will allow me to go into other retail businesses in the future without any problems because my apprenticeship teaches me how to operate in a retail business and how to deal with customers. My apprenticeship allows me to learn more in depth about the workplace more than the average store assistant.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Aldi are full of great people. They are nice to have a laugh with and are also very productive when it comes to work. They are able to be serious when it comes to working and know when to relax throughout the day. Being able to switch through these two moods is what separates Aldi from most jobs because they have a wide array of people within the business. However, everyone looks after each other and will always want to help if you need it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • When applying to Aldi you must be ready for new challenges and be ready for the unexpected because any thing can happen. You must be able to work effectively and as efficiently as possible being able to complete the job without fail every time. You must also have a great knowledge of common sense, because that is what most of the job is. You must always be thinking "how can I make their job easier?" And that is how a smooth and efficient Aldi works.
