  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a client services technician for real estate. This involves working with clients and underwriters to confirm insurance details, send out and produce policy documents and debiting premiums onto the system. I also work closely with accounts to sort out any payment issues etc. In my apprenticeship I am taking my cert CII insurance exams and also looking at developing my personal skills within the workplace. This is through Kaplan. I am also often called upon to train new starters and attend meetings to offer my opinions on any business issues.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am part of the Chelmsford development programme where I attend regular training for things like presentation skills, negotiation skills, interview technique and networking. I am taking my insurance exams and I am half way through that, then I will have a certificate in insurance. Even though I don't work in underwriting, I've had the ability to attend a five stages of underwriting course.

  • My programme has been very clear from the beginning how it is laid out. I have been offered support/advice on worksheets and mock exams for the technical side of my programme. I have also been set modules to complete when I feel like I need developing in a certain area. I know that I need to be studying at least twice a week and I am also allowed 5 study days off a year by RSA. My manager ensures I use time at work to study also.
