  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is Business Admin. I'm doing a Data Analytics course with QA Learning. Daily tasks include working on ECIF and working on Utilisation. Side projects include a bot for my department that includes data from our main data source and am a member of the team for next years on-boarding experience.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, lots of internal learning as there is plenty of time to develop your own skills. Pick whatever you're interested in and if there is an online course for it you can learn it. Personally have studied Python, machine learning, SQL, Excel and other analyst skills. Also learn a lot of soft skills like planning, time-management, interpersonal skills. These have developed a lot as you are required to use them everyday otherwise you will not get the most out of your time at Microsoft.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Yeah I enjoy it. Microsoft is a great place to work.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Microsoft?
  • I feel valued. People show appreciation for my work and I am involved in as much of the business as I can be.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Poorly organised to start. Induction was good but too generic so I learned a lot about other roles instead of my own. This is partly due to my role being a new one in my department so was still a learning curve for everyone involved which is okay. Training is great here like I said earlier. Always offered support here at Microsoft and my team work well now. My skills coach (the trainer separate from Microsoft) was poor to start and this affected the first six months of my coursework. However QA resolved the problem and now they are great.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Yeah I can always reach out to my skills coach [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] for support. She has helped me and other apprentices at Microsoft structure our roles to align with the occupational brief more. Canvas is a great platform for learning too and [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] from QA is a great trainer.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support at Microsoft from everyone. Early-in-Career is huge here.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • 14,000/yr was too little. 16,500/yr is much better but moving to Reading has been very expensive. Work expense some of my travel which is helpful. Pay will increase steadily every year which is good.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • So many, too many to list. If you want something here you can go and get it. Company events all the time internal and external. Volunteering is huge here. Reading is a busy place and can find anything to keep you interested in.

  • 9. Would you recommend Microsoft to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it's Microsoft. They're a great company to work for and pioneers in the tech industry.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Microsoft?
  • Be yourself. The application process is designed to discover who you are and they will know if you're the right fit or not. Trust the system. Also enjoy it. Any experience during the application is golden and there will be positives to take from everything. They want you to succeed as much as you want to succeed and this will definitely come across in your interviews. Good luck. (:
