  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have been employed by the business as a fibre jointer within the central FND patch. In addition to the fibre training that I have received, I have also had an insight into working with Copper and cabling working alongside my buddies.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I came to the business with no previous telecommunications or engineering experience and so it has been a big learning curve however the trainers and buddies have been patient and very helpful allowing me to learn a number of new skills, one of which would be the use of a splicing machine.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I feel valued as a BT employee. I understand that BT is a huge business and so difficult for them as a company to truly ensure everyone who works for them is 100% happy at all times, however, my team and manager take an interest in my well being and development and this makes me feel welcome and part of the group.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured and fairly simple to work on, however, I do feel that there was an initial lack of contact from the apprenticeship team following my release from the first stage of training. I would recommend that new staff are told who their coach will be and when they will be contacted at the start of the programme.

I am also aware of the different help schemes made available to me as a BT employee, an example of this is Rehabworks which I have already made use of.
