  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Daily tasks involve completing tests and documenting audit evidence in order for management to then review and raise points for me to address on the work paper.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Lots of new IT based skills, primarily with Excel but also with some other applications such as Caseware. Also, more personal skills have been developed such as talking to clients, and with team members.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the culture around the office, as well as the age of the teams that I tend to work with. I seem to be doing well on the program and being recognised in part for this. I enjoy being with the team, however some of the work can become repetitive and dull when doing the same thing multiple times.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BDO?
  • I feel that manager appreciation is very adhoc, with some managers I find that feedback is given alot, however with other it is very rare to receive any feedback. I feel somewhat undervalued at times when comparing myself to other members of my intake when it is clear that I am working above and beyond that which my other intake members work.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Exams - Not well at all. we have had lots of issues with examinations being very last minute, and deadlines not being known until a matter of days before items are due in. Training & support - there are lots of courses available, however very little to no time in order to do these. If training is important, then there should allocated time in which to complete this.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • BPP - General attitude seems varied. Some exam tutors will provide very good help, however others sometimes don't know answers to simple questions and also don't know how to resolve these issues.

    4/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • BDO - Lots of time is given to work on exams, as well as supporting us when the exams are going on.

    8/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salary has now increased to a level which is more competitive and allows me to soon move into rented accommodation closer to the office. Previously, the salary was somewhat low, however the increase has now made it more competitive.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Lots of events occur with a very good turnout from people within the office, however voluntary initiatives are very minimal/non existent. I have tried to do CSR work and had it declined on multiple occasions. There are no leisure/sports clubs in the office which I feel would be very good for team morale.

    7/10

  • 9. Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Everyone around the office is very nice, and the work is interesting. The work/life balance is good and the help the BDO provides is very good.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
  • Ensure that you are being yourself, and that you are being honest. I did the summer school program which is a great way of getting onto the apprenticeship program as well as getting some experience in the office life.
