  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role involves me shadowing my mentor and learning the key skills which are required to be successful in my job. I then have to use the skills I develop at my work place and every so often I go to college to demonstrate these skill and get assessed on them as well as my general knowledge on certain areas of the trade.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • yes I have learnt many new skills which are needed to be successful within my job role however it has also shown me the importance of developing current skills such as my communication skills as well as my self management skills. We are also given the opportunity to meet fellow students within the same brands who are taking the same path who we can share our knowledge with.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Volkswagen Group?
  • Babcock try their absolute hardest to make each apprentice feel valued, they do this by only employing people who take an interest in our futures and want us to do well and make a good example of ourselves. it also carries on throughout the hierarchy of the trainers at the NLC because we are always getting visits from managers such as [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who come into our class and take an interest of us as an individual as opposed to us as a class. This makes each individual learner feel valued for the majority of their involvement with Babcock.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the programme itself is well structured and organised as the trainers take time out of their own lives to make sure that the content we are taught is relevant and if they see somewhere they can improve it then they will, the weeks flow really well at college and also means we are given time to complete each of our assignments as well as pass all our exams.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As students and apprentices we receive more than a sufficient amount of support from our trainers and even their managers, this is because they want us all to do well and make sure we have the foundations to build solid futures for ourselves. this is key to our development and means we are not restricted at all when we are here at college as they do their absolute to find stuff out or help us out where they believe possible.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my employer supplies us with good support as the trend usually seems to be that the supporting staff members have either done the same training path as us or at least a very similar one with a different bran, this shows us the professional life choices we have and shows the progression paths available after we have completed our apprenticeship. In return this makes us want to do well and gives us confidence that we are in the correct job role and we want to be here.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • the salary we receive is at first seemingly small however the more you progress through your apprenticeship the wage we receive soon catches up and starts to reflect the work that we actually do for the company. There is also the option to do overtime for the company which means you can actually earn yourself more money than you would usually earn so you can increase your pay if your work allows you to.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • yes thee are plenty of opportunities outside of work for instance I partake in going to the gym as well as playing for my local rugby clubs 1st/2nd team this means I get to socialise with people who I would not normally meet which again gives me the chance to develop my people skills and my communication skills with new people. it is also a great way to relieve yourself of stress and anything else that has been biting you during your work week.

  • 9. Would you recommend Volkswagen Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • because for me the effort their employees here at the NLC Milton Keynes put into making each of the apprentices here feel valued is a level above what most people are used to. They show they care on a professional level as well as a individual level and are willing to help you out if you find any problems even if they are not directly affecting them.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Volkswagen Group?
  • to make sure they get the job because the process of learning they will go through for this apprenticeship will help them with many things to come and I would say compared to some of the teaching I have received throughout my life the Babcock one is by far the standout and will definitely be the learning that I remember throughout my life
