  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • With BT I started my apprenticeship dealing with customer queries and quickly progressed to a Revenue Assurance role where I looking for errors in our processes which can affect either BT or the customer before constructing and implementing fixes for the root cause of the issue. This has allowed me to take part in several projects throughout the business, allowing me to gain a wide knowledge base for both products and process.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My previous experience would largely have been in a managed team environment, my current role with BT allows me work independently to find and fix issues. This has greatly built my confidence, problem solving and work management abilities. I have also had the opportunity to improve my Microsoft Excel skills and build my own SharePoint.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • In BT I am part of a friendly and focused team where we are able to set goals and work together. As part of this I have had the opportunity to build a site SharePoint and to take the lead in product knowledge for many products throughout the business, I have found this greatly enjoyable and would credit it to my apprenticeship helping me see where my skills are what I am capable of.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I believe the apprenticeship programme helped me to not only find my voice within BT but also to have the confidence to use it. This would be irrelevant if it wasn't for the fact that BT is willing to listen and factor in what I have to say. This has gone a long way in making me feel like a valued employee.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme I gained employment through was extremely well structured between BT and the external moderator. I found it to be completely mapped out from start to finish, ensuring we all knew what was expected from us so that no one was left behind. This provided the environment we needed to complete the apprenticeship to the best of our ability.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our external advisor was a massive support from day one. A large majority of my starting team had never completed an apprenticeship programme as part of a new employment but [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] ensured that we knew what was expected of us and guided us through all aspects of the apprenticeship. She also maintained a constant presence on site helping to make her support as accessible as possible.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • BT always ensured that week to week we had enough scheduled time to complete our coursework and to research, prepare and, in some cases, implement our final projects. In particular my manager went out of his way to show me what I was capable of and pushed me to go beyond even that. Any questions were always answered with a friendly, supportive attitude.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • While the answer to this will obviously vary from person to person I found that our apprenticeship salary was enough to cover the basics of day to day life. To me this was a good way to learn how to manage my expenses so that when I went on to my full salary I could better invest it in my future.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • At BT there are constant outings and events being arranged for anyone to take part in. A lot of these are non-BT events but when we feel that something we have planned may benefit from BT's involvement we usually get their support in some way. What BT does provide is the opportunity to support their chosen charities, while this doesn't suit everyone it has allowed for some members of the team to take part in varied volunteering activities.

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have found BT to be a great place to work. I'm lucky to part of a brilliant team doing work that I found enjoyable and I feel I am able to make a valued contribution. The available benefits in particular have been a great help in investing in myself and my future.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • The application and interview process was pretty long and can appear excessive from an outside perspective. The best advice I can give for this is to not shy away from something new and to make sure that you stand out. Don't be afraid to say why they should hire you because if you don't someone else will.
