  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Commodity settlements - I invoice and settle trades of commodities like Oil, Copper and Milk. I have to talk with many different teams in London, America and Mumbai daily as well as talking to clients for confirmation and other things. Each day, I carry out tasks like invoicing etc. but also different issues that come in.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved my organisation skills and time management - I have to be able to juggle many tasks at once and remember all the different details for each issue to ensure I fix it correctly. I have also improved my communication skills, not just interpersonal, but also via emails and phone calls which are more professional and concise.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy this programme and really believe in it's ability to make you, as an individual, grow and develop. You have real life training and experiences as well as the educational qualification that you can not necessarily get together during university. You are constantly supported and encouraged by the team/floor & company which further helps you thrive. It is not the easy option either - it is very hard work as you have a full time job and you must study as well but it is worth it for the results and experience you get.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very organised - we have a 2 week induction course which teaches and informs us of the company and the schemes and other details. We are constantly trained and supported by our team and also online courses are provided to help develop our knowledge. We also have constant support around us in our team, 1:2:1s with our mentors or managers as well.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well - I am able to pay rent and support myself each month with no issue.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Many opportunities - My department is very social and we often have events which allow you to get to know more people etc. There are also groups outside of your team that you can join, like the 'Green Team' which I am part of where we strive to make a greener environment at our campus.

  • 9. Would you recommend J.P. Morgan to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is a very fulfilling, enjoyable, supportive and kind environment where everyone is able to be successful and grow as an individual.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan?
  • As cheesy as it sounds, be yourself. JP Morgan is looking for individuals with character, drive and something unique. The application process is hard and there are many stages including an intense insight evening to the video interviews. I was told, and I was very grateful for it, that it will take a few months to settle in, with the role and responsibilities - you're not expected to know everything from the start!!
