  • Customer Service Executive Apprentice: Business Administration. My job role involves responding to policy holder's enquiries about their annuities. This requires extensive knowledge of annuities and the database systems used. Training and support is provided by technical staff and shared knowledge within the department. I am given opportunities for additional administrative side projects to help in various areas of the department. I am also given 20% of my work week to complete apprenticeship coursework and exams.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have had opportunity for business skills development courses such as: Time management, Communication and Presenting. Future opportunities include: CV and interview training, Presenting at external career fairs, as well as participating in an event planning project to arrange our graduation ceremony. Within my job role I have continuously trained in the knowledge to achieve competency. With the support of the company and training provider I have worked on managing existing mental ill health issues while working in an office environment. Progress in this has been great and likely would not exist without the support/ efforts of: my manager, apprenticeship manager and apprenticeship tutor.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • A structured Learning plan covers the dates for exams and course work submissions. The training provider has been understanding and flexible in rearranging my plan in light of some personal difficulties that have arisen. Due to this I am now ahead of the original plan; despite initially being behind. In terms of work, Competency within the role is gained by achieving 3 licenses; relating to different work types. This measurable structure makes it easy to manage progression in gaining competency within my role.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a large amount of support from my training provider due to mental difficulties I find it difficult to travel to unfamiliar locations.
