My role involves keeping track and planning work against new car models which means I have to have meetings weekly and having to update timing for cars. As well as this, I work with CAD models and decide the appropriate programs that should be used for gap and flush inline and offline measurement. This also involves a lot of meetings and planning as well as working with other departments.
I have learned a lot of skills as well as developing on some through my time on the apprenticeship. This includes and extensive knowledge of measurement as well as developing knowledge and skills using the measuring equipment. I have gained qualifications out of my apprenticeship also which prove my academic abilities.
I have enjoyed my apprenticeship and really enjoy the role I am in. The role I am now in really meets my expectations and my team and manager are very helpful.I have enjoyed learning and expanding my role within engineering over the past 3 and a half years. I work in a small team which is enjoyable as there is a lot of interaction.
I do feel valued at Jaguar Land Rover and I do feel as though my opinion and skills are valued within my team. My manager attends all of my 1:1 meetings which makes me feel valued and recognised as this is when we will go through the work I have done.
I think the apprenticeship could of been more structured and organised. This is down to the fact within my first year of college we had constant change between lecturers which made it difficult to keep on track. My only other criticism on organisation would be that I would of liked to have had a few placements in different areas as I believe this would of broadened my knowledge of not only the company but also engineering.
There was a reasonable amount of support from most tutors/lecturers and the general attitude was positive. If there was a problem with my work or I was struggling there were certain tutors who would go out of their way to help.
I receive a lot of support from my employer and the attitude towards this is really positive from all areas of the business. My manager is very keen to be involved in my work and help me out. HR are very responsive and helpful if you have queries about anything within JLR.
Based on the average apprenticeship salary, My salary far exceeds this and it suits my living costs. In this time on the apprenticeship I have been able to buy my own house which I think is good proof of the type of salary that is offered. My only criticism is some role placements hinder living costs as they are far away.
There are a lot of opportunities outside of work with Jaguar Land Rover which include company events such as awards evenings, Christmas parties and CSR events for charities. I think opportunities are also there because of discounts we receive for other companies such as discount for gyms and leisure facilities.
Yes
I feel valued at this company which I think is very important when it comes to a job. As well as this, the pay is very good based against other companies and the locations of work are ideal for those in the West Midlands so commuting can be easy.
Be yourself, be prepared for assessment days, expect to be challenged daily, put yourself out there through the application process and enjoy the process.
