  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Field customer engineer. Attending customer sites to install, fault find and replace IT services goods offering the highest customer service.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have now achieved my IT telecoms diploma Level 3. Have also completed branded examinations such as HP and Lenovo volunteering in achieving more brands such as cisco and dell. Learning by day of the technical skill of the job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme, as we get to travel a lot for training and courses meeting and connecting with other apprentices in the UK. BT provides opportunities for trips to see the history of the company not only this but opportunities to excel and grow a positive reputation of your career.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • At the moment I feel very privileged and proud to have this opportunity to work with a very successful company like BT whom has a lot of history in the making. My value within the company is very positive as an apprentice I have had the opportunity to visit the BT centre a couple of times, BT sport hub centre , Oswestry NMC and many more.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction was great got to meet the other apprentices in my intake from all over the country and have accommodation, travel and food credited for. We had a block of 6 months where we'd go to Yarnfield park for our BTEC qualification so that was a week per month. Only negative issue is the structure of buddying which could be completed better where you will struggle to find an engineer who you can solely be with for a couple of weeks.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training is completed in house and internally by BT employees which is always great as they know about the company rather than having a 3rd Party contractor. We get a apprenticeship coach who is always a stone throw away were you will be able to discuss anything about your NVQ qualification or work matters. The apprenticeship coach will get in you involved with events happening all over the company i.e. Helping out at the BT sports hub or a career event.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from your employer is great you can always email, call or meet in person if you have any difficulties or quires. So far I have settled in very smoothly with the help of my employees.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salary is at its top considering that you are an apprentice, it definitely met my expectations and very competitive to other corporate companies. The package with having a work van all paid for including petrol card is very efficient.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • As BT being affiliated close to the military, many employees join the army reserves whilst working with BT. BT help support you all the way and even provide extra days holiday to balance work and military commitments. BT also encourage you to get yourself volunteering in your local communities.

  • Yes

  • Successful company, many opportunities to move around the company if your job doesn't meet your expectations and provides for training.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Be yourself and be confident. There are many stages before you get to the assessment centre so always put in the effort in what you say or in completing tasks. Once at the assessment centre be ready to be out of your comfort zone as the process is very difficult so prepare yourself and most importantly do some extra research of the company you are trying to work for.
