  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a sales support consultant(SSC) apprentice, I deal with helping the financial advisers that work for Prudential Financial Planning. This involves calling other financial organisations to chase up any transfers that we are expecting, answering any questions that the advisers may have, developing good relationships with the advisers and to make sure that the customer receives everything within our timescales.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • While working to obtain my business admin level 3 qualification, Prudential also set up workshops to help us develop our skills within the business environment. These workshops teach all the apprentices how to have a well laid put CV, interviewing skills, how to get the best out of yourself etc. These workshops have been extremely helpful in teaching the apprentices new skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have been working here since the end of September and I have enjoyed the apprenticeship as I have made some good friends and I am surrounded by helpful people in my office that are there to help me if I need it.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by M&G?
  • In Prudential I do feel valued as the apprenticeship program has been going on for a few years now so everyone knows what to expect from the apprentices and what they can provide to the team.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship program within Prudential is well laid out by the apprentice manager and she keeps in close contact with all of the apprentices managers to make sure everyone of us is coping well with our work and there are no problems.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive good support from my training employer, they always answer all the questions that I have regarding their workbooks and they keep up-to0date with the apprentices with a monthly call and a group call to make sure everyone is coping with the work.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a good amount of support from my employer as they have trained me and they have taught me everything I know as I came to this apprenticeship straight after school so I was completely new to a business environment.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is down as competitive and it definitely meets the costs for young people and gives them enough money so that they can save some of it away and sill have a good amount to enjoy themselves with.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Prudential have a lot of company events as they have charity days, PFP conference that the SSC's get to go to every year, Prudential sponsor a cycling event in London so allows people to go down to London and help out with that. There is also an apprentice event day in which all the apprentices went out and helped with a community garden but the events can change every year.

  • 9. Would you recommend M&G to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great stepping stone to use to get into the business environment that gives you great experience that you could use anywhere in an office environment.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G?
  • Remember to add any extra curricular activities and any part time jobs down as these will show that you can work in teams or that you can work hard, if you have won awards or done anything that you are proud of then add it and it will not go against you.
