Assistant Technician Review

Assistant technician My daily tasks involve design work, using CAD, attending team meetings in which i will speak to people both internally and externally. im often responsible for helping out newer apprentices. Very rarely i do the same thing every day due to the nature of the job, the only thing i can guaruntee is that i will get a coffee in the morning

Ive started to build on my desing skills, being aware of civil engineering principles as well as the soft skills required for this role such as communication, IT skills just to name a few I have been on loads of internal and external courses both developing my technical knowlegde and also to learn to use new software packages

Really enjoy the programme, every single day i do interesting different work, the team i work in are fully of friendly characters are are easy to get on wwith both in and out of the office. The Company culture at arup is like no other still modeled on this day to the values which were set out by the company founder. this makes for an excellent group of people in a great environment to work.

I feel very valued, people trust me to work on things with in an independent manner, this means i get to get on with things and it allows me to learn about the tasks i have to do and understand them better. Regular progress meetings to let me know how i am getting on in the office is a good boost. I have worked on a few projects where i have been quite a key member and therefore my contributions to that project were valued

the programme is very well organised, i get plenty of training each year both formal and informal. The support i get from the people running the programme is magnificent as well as the people overseeing me within the programme. i have been given additional time to spend studying before exams which has been great.

they are always quick to respond to any queries i email them and are happy to stay late and explain problems i may have. The course is enjoyable and interesting which is also good

receive lots of support from my employer there are lotrs of measures in place to ensure that i am progressing at the most effective rate both at work and at college

due to having minimal costs due to living with parents it does meet my costs

loads of opportunities outside of work, as a member of the sports committee i regularly organise such events myself. i regularly attend CPD meetings. i am a stem ambassador so i will regularly go and work with schools related to engineering

Overall such a great place to work, almost unlike what you would expect from working in an office. everyday is interesting different and challenging in its own way. The people are great and ive found this across multiple offices.

Be sure to be confident with maths and IT skills especially as the job involves a lot of different software uses
