  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Job Title: Network Engineer. The apprenticeship consists of many rotations so that you can get a taste for different sectors of the business. The first rotation I started in involved me communicating with large companies such as Google in why certain devices anmd connections currently aren't working.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Having previously not been very proficient with ICT, the job has taught me to slowly become more efficient and learn how different commands work while teaching me skills exclusive to the company. Furthermore, in the higher apprenticeship you get a degree at university, all paid for.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am currently enjoying the work i'm doing and also cannot wait to see what the future has to hold for me in this company. I want to continue to develop my ICT skills and learn how to perfrom the different job roles which come along with the job.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I feel very valued due to the fact that even though we are apprentices, when in job roles we get treated like any other employee in the same sort of professional manor. Also, we are given lots of opportunities to pursue chances to meet higher up people.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • To a certain extent, very well organised. We started our first rotation very promptly which allowed us to get a knick of what's going on within the business and meet all of the team.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There's always help available if needs be and its never patronising if questions need to be answered. Also there's guides available which also explain process'.

  • There's always people to speak to if any problems occur.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is competitive but however does meet my costs, and the fact it gradually increases over the years makes it all worth the while.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes. We get 3 volunteering days a year and there's always things in which are occurring throughout the business, both internal and external. BT sports day filmed me for the news!

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • As Its a very well paid apprenticeship and you can earn a free degree out of it while getting skills for one of the biggest companies there is.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Be yourself and take everything seriously.
