  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a daily basis my role involves working alongside my colleagues and doing tasks such as invoicing, creating reports, admin, correspondence with clients and insurers, and managing many systems. I have been given a good level of responsibility when working on certain clients. I have worked with the majority of my team members on different occasions which has been helpful.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I definitely feel I have developed both professional and personal skills since starting the Apprenticeship. I have gained knowledge of the insurance industry as a whole whilst on my training courses, as well as learning and passing the IF1 exam. The training courses are very useful in providing us with the relevant information we need. I have developed further communication skills and feel much more confident in myself since starting the programme. I have also been on an external health and safety course with the company, which I would recommend to anyone who gets the chance.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have settled into Aon very well both at my office in Sheffield, and with the other Apprentices and people I have met. This definitely makes the Programme more enjoyable. I work with a great team in Sheffield which support me in work and also with my studys. I read a lot of positive reviews about the Aon Apprenticeship before i started here, and I think it has met my expectations. I also like the fact that it is rather challenging.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aon?
  • I feel valued within my office; my colleagues like to get me involved with their work, and appreciate my efforts. I believe the Apprentices get quite a lot of recognition within Aon and our opinions/thoughts are valued. I would like to get involved with a few more different projects to get a feel for different aspects of the company, and learn more.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The 2 week induction course was very enjoyable and really set me up well before starting work in the office. It gave all the Apprentices chance to get to know eachother and also get to know people who will be supporting us throughout the programme. We recieve a training session once a month in London to study for exams. At these training sessions we recieve all the handouts and relevant documents to help us.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel like we recieve a fair amount of support from the Company. We have quarterly reviews with our Manager and a colleague from HR.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary I recieve meets my living and travel costs; however it wouldnt be sufficient for me to live on my own, which is something I am starting to think about seeing as im turning 21 this year. Saying this, at the moment is does allow me to live well.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Being in Sheffield, which is not a main City for Insurance, there are not many oppurtunities for me to get involved with outside of work; I know in Leeds and London they have many events outside of work.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a proffesional, international and successful company that holds many oppurtunites to develop and succeed. They support you with studies, allowing you to gain largely recognised qualifications.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • The application process was quite thorough. It involved an online application, a short telephone interview, an assement day (which involved a interview, a team excercise and a written excercise). Once I recieved the job I attended a 2 week induction course. I would recommend anyone applying to research Aon and ome up with scenarios and examples to use in their interview.
