  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Enterprise Management Team with many other Technical Service Specialists. We use programs including System Center Operations Manager and System Center Configurations Manager to monitor estates for different customers. We have to make sure that alerting is working so that a team will recieve an incident if e.g. a server goes down.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a vast deal of experience and knowledge within the area i work in. I have been on a few courses for the programs we use which has been very beneficial in learning the basic conceps of how a network is configured. With my colleagues around me to help, they have taught me a great deal from how to install i.e. SCOM Agents to in depth problem solving and wher to look. I have also taken part in a few coperate events for example explaining to children with special needs about me and what i do.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am very happy with the team i work in, everyone is very charismatic, friendly and overall we have good chemistry. I think that the company Fujitsu was the ideal company to work for and is a very structured organised company that will accomodate for it's employee's. My tutor's are very helpful and the method of completing and marking work on an e-portfolio is for me a perfect and motivating way of completing and improving coursework.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Fujitsu?
  • I think as apprentices we are the youth of the company and therefor have to prove our selves to our team and the organisation. I think because of my enthusiastic work ethic my Manager appriciates how much i have come on since i first started. I know look after certain accounts such as G4S and Crossrail.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme it's self run by the college in my opinion is good with one tutor but could be improved with the other. I think the induction was good and we were told exactly what the structure of the year was going to be. I think meeting with one tutor is good as i receive emails months before to when they are going to be held however this is not always the case with my other mentor. I have received documents of what units i have to work on and what needs to be achieved.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The college the tutor's come from are quite a distance so we don't tend to meet very regularly which can be of disadvantage. For me personally i think the one tutor could take a different approach in his teaching style, maybe to use real life examples relating to us a bit more when explaining. I think instead of getting us to research questions all the time he could show/explain about the topic a bit more.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As i have said previously i couldn't be in a better team. If i need help with something then somebody will help out wherever. My manager will provide me with any thing i need i.e. monitor and who to speak to. With emails about certain event's taking place the company do value their apprentices.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As i live on my own and moved to manchester from Cheltenham i don't have the family support as much as others may have. I am happy with my salary as it covers my Rent, food, bills all my living costs. It just about provides me enough for socials costs as going down south to see my family can be quite costly.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are quite a few charity events but there could be more company or sporting activities such as i.e. a Fujitsu football team. There is however a good gym on campus which is very handy. I have joined a football team outside of work.
