  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Since the beginning of my apprenticeship, I have been given opportunities to work in many departments to help me learn the workings of the business. I spend approximately spend 6-9 months in a department which by then has provided me a sufficient amount of knowledge about the workings of that particular department. Currently, I work as a contracts engineer in customer services which means I interact with people daily both internal and external to the business. This experience has helped me greatly improve my communication skills, problem solving skills and some of the fundamental points of working in a business environment. I occasionally get involved with business projects including Kaizen events and technical projects to improve my knowledge of Six Sigma and technical skills. In my current role, some of my daily tasks are booking on purchase orders, helping with customer enquiries and organizing delivery of equipment to customers.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction and training is very thorough and ensures that the business culture is accepting and safe. The training very much embeds the idea that Health and Safety of everyone in the business is the number one priority. All mentors and supporters in my apprenticeship scheme are very supportive and well organised when answering my questions, concerns and generally leading me in the right direction when performing my tasks. The programme itself is organised but is also flexible. The aims of the programme can be openly discussed with the programme manager and this has helped me choose several directions I may want to take in my future career.
