Currently working as an Application design engineer for the Genie Evo Product. Designing schematic drawings for the product and interacting with Project engineers to provide the product to the customer. I also occasionally deal with customers providing technical knowledge if needed. I review others engineers work as part of the working process to make sure it is up to standard.
I have learnt lots of skills during the apprenticeship. They have trained me up to HNC level and been on numerous internal training courses, however since it has not been a specialised apprenticeship. I have only gained basic knowledge on departments because of how I have been rotated around departments.
I have enjoyed rotating around the different departments in the company. The people that I have worked with have been really helpful at times and i could find it quite easy to work with them as part of a team. The work flow can be hit and miss at times but overall its good.
Sometimes I feel that undervalued or underused in certain departments as there might not be enough work. I also feel like at times that they stop you from getting involved in large projects. They do appriciate the small things that you do at times and customers do appriciate the small jobs you do for them as well
The original apprenticeship plan was good to begin with, although it changed during the apprenticeship which meant I missed out on a lot of areas and lost out on specialised training at the end. I have at times had regular meetings with my manager to discuss how it is going. They have let us frequently do college work if needed and let us go to other sites.
The training provider has provided me with support towards the end of the apprenticeship, but lacked it at the start. I had regular monthly meetings with him to make sure that I was on track and provided me with guidance on how to correct mistakes or what areas of the NVQ i need to hit.
The company is good at providing me with the correct support when it is needed, although it does take a while for somethings to happen. They have been willing for us to go on training courses and sent us to other schneider sites to be able to complete parts of the NVQ.
The wage goes up each year I have worked here. The pay is good in comparison to other industries. The cost to travel to work is relativly cheap compared to the wage, and there is a canteen that provides reasonably priced food. Although compared to other companies that I go to college with, their pay seems to be slightly higher.
There are several different activities that go on outside of work. I have volunteered before at events that have taken place on the weekends and there is a weekly 5 a side game that I have played in. There is a yearly Christmas party but, there could be a few more events throughout the year.
Yes
There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained from working here. They have offices and factories located all around the world. So there is plenty of opportunities to do lots of different things.
The interviews and assessment day was run smoothly as it was different to the normal interview process. It made me feel very relaxed about the inverview because of it.
