  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme has allowed me to develop as a person as I am lucky to be within a great team who are always willing to support and give a hand where they can. The company culture allows my work to be flexible so if ever I have any medical problems or something personal going on I am able to fit work in around this so I do not feel like I am stuck at work suffering. The programme has been a great opportunity for me to network and meet a wide range of people to guide my future.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The college side of the programme has been a challenge due to the set up and the expectation that college is attended once a week for a full day. This was a challenge due to the fact it only took 2 months for me to complete the knowledge questions and then the rest of the work I was required to complete needed to be done at work. Therefore me being a college was not helping to achieve this. I was fortunate enough that we changed the set up so I attend college once a month, this worked much better as it gave me the opportunity to complete and collect all of the evedience I need to a good standard on a 'college day' at work. I have mmonthly meetings with my manager on a monthly basis as well as monthly meeting with my mentor who is in a different team to me but is able to help with revision and comleting work if I need support. The structure of my work within the office is well set up with it clear that any work given to me within the office must be passed through my manager before it is given to me to ensure it will be beneficial and also that I can cope with the load being given to me.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have weekly phone calls with my tutor if I am not at college wth my tutor to discuss where I am at and also the work that I need to do. My tutor is keen to support me and is always there to answer any questions I have however sometimes this was delayed and not to the standard it could be due to the factor the Apprentice group attend colege on the same day as a general Business Admin course meaning that they were the main focus as their course is much shorter than the apprentice course.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Whilst completing my college course I have received a lot ofsupport from my employer. They have ensure that every piece of work I put my time into is relevant and relates to my course and I will benefit from the work. If I have any problems in or out of the office there are always people in the team I can talk to and they are always willing to help me out.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Arup pay considerably well as well as receiving additional benefits, however due to my home location and where I work it costs me half of my salary to pay for my travel. This means that once I have paid for my travel and then pay the costs to run my car and also have a social life I am left with little money. However, I beleive this is all part of travelling as far as I do and also being an apprentice as I understand Arup pay well but do not support travel costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We often have many team events which allow me to social interact with my collegues. I am also likely enough to work with the shipping companies who also host social events. This allows me to network and create new relationships. When I am not working I enjoy sport so I often go to the gym and attend my swimming club. I also enjoy going out and socalising with friends.
