Building services Apprentice Review

My role is to work alingside the engineers to help create mark-ups and do very basic design work to create sketches to be given to the CAD team to create into drawings.

I have learnt a few new softwares such as; bluebeam, Microstation, and beginning to learn dialux and amtech which are caluculation softwares.

I like the team i work with and do like the work i am doing. The company is very good and i feel proud to work for them. The projects i am working on are brilliant and am excited to carry on learning.

I do feel valued by ARUP as they do want the best for you and try to get the best from you by slowly giving you a little more responsibility.

With my project i have come at a critical stage where i have had to pick things up very quickly. My training i do get is very on the job based and doing a lot of shadowing and learning from others. The support I get from my team is good as we do work well with eachother.

Our training provider does work well with us however can take time to communicate with us.

I do recieve a lot of support as they do check on my wellbeing. HR team are good and work well with the team and the rest of the staff are helpfull. A little more support from managers and mentors could make the experience a little better.

The salary is good however with living in London occurs much higher costs and therefore travel costs and living costs can be a little challenging. Daily costs such as lunch can be expensive as being situated in central london means the food can be very expensive. Also social costs of london also have an effect on your wage as there can be times where you can limit your social events as they can be very expensive.

There are many events ARUP do outide of work; annual sports days, skiing trips and many more. There is also a social team which is good to be apart of as you get a say in the social events that get to go on and have your input. There is also the Christmas and summer party to also get invloved in and be apart of which is a good experience.

Its a very well recognised company to work for and there are many great projects to work on. The skills you will learn are endless and the social side and events they offer are very good for networking and getting you involved with the company.

With the interview process ensure you talk about your attitude to working and your work ethics as they know they are employing you not for your knowledge but your ability to learn and atitude to work as you will pick up the skills and knowledge suring the apprenticeship. On the assessment day jus be calm and communicate well and dont be shy. The early days here can be daunting but it will grudually ease up.
