  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At Arup I am an apprentice technician, using Revit to do coordination tasks for building services. I've worked on some different projects now, including visa and triton square and my daily role is to model and coordinate services such as pipe work and duct work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so much since being at Arup especially on Revit and CAD. I have also gained communication skills and learnt how to communicate with a formal email.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am very happy here everyone is helpful and polite and very welcoming. The work I do is enjoyable and I am very interested in it.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • I feel very valued and the fact that apprentices are treated the same as managers and associates is very nice to see and makes you feel important.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My work at work is very structured and helpful and college is well planned and structured however the NVQ is slightly confusing but its the first year for the new format so this maybe why its a bit harder to follow.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • support from the training provider is good, he comes in every month for a catch up meeting and gives us information and answers questions.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • support at work is very good, many people are there to help and answer questions. I have two mentors and a line manager who check in with me and have regular meetings with me to make sure im happy and doing well.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is good but living and traveling in London is very expensive.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there are always events and social outings outside of work which are great fun to go to.

  • 9. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a welcoming friendly firm full of smart inspirational people. the work is challenging but enjoyable and the support is great. Flexible benefits and perks at work (employee discount) are very good.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • make sure you are interested in engineering and the discipline, make sure you are ready to start a full time job and will be dedicated as its very different form school and college. Be confident in yourself and don't stress in the interview just be yourself and be honest.
