  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Job title is senior fraud analyst, my daily tasks include the monitoring of inbound smishing texts, scam prevention and money mule prevention work. I interact daily with internal and external stakeholders of all levels. I am responsible for my own work stack and have complete autonomy. I organise my work days to ensure I'm constantly on top of all projects and tasks that I am responsible for, such as smishing/fraudulent phone number takedowns.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have currently gained my level 6 diploma in IT and Telecoms through my apprenticeship programme so far, I'm currently studying towards my level 8 diploma. I have taken part in internal and external training courses such as the RBS technology Challenge, where I was apart of a team of graduate and apprentices, we had to come up with an idea that was innovative and sustainable for our customers, we decided on an idea of a peer to peer volunteering app, my team and I came in 2nd place out of 25 teams, I have developed my professional skills by learning's from my experienced team, mates all in all I have gained lots of new skills so far.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme, the team I am in is great, everyone gets along well, the management are really down to earth and open and are willing to help you if you ask for it. RBS has been hard to work from in the past but I really see change now in the company from the top down and I feel more able to contribute to that in my current team than I did before in previous roles, the programme has been good, I think there is room for improvement in certain factors but over all I am enjoying the programme it has been an amazing opportunity for me.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • In my previous roles I never felt valued at all within RBS, but since coming onto to apprentice programme I feel extremely valued by RBS by being able to take this chance to progress my career and myself through the RBS apprentice programme. My manager has also been very supportive of me whilst I continue to work through my apprenticeship.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think year 1 of my apprenticeship has went really well, however the organisation of year 2 of my programme has been not as good due to the change of apprenticeship providers half way through my learning's. I feel this could have a detrimental impact on how my year 2 goes, however I am taking this the change with a positive attitude and I am looking forward to embracing my year 2 to tackling the challenges that lie ahead.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received excellent support from my year 1 apprentice tutor Sunil, he really took the time to help me and get me through my year 1, I cant comment on year 2 yet as I have had no contact from my new tutor from the different apprenticeship training provider.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My mangers have been great with me and all totally support me in completely my apprenticeship

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is fair for an apprentice, it is enough to cover my living, travel, daily and social costs. I would say however RBS could do more to make it even better for us, I feel the graduate salary if too high for people who essentially have no work experience and I feel RBS could even the balance between the apprentices and graduate as we are all apart of the early careers programme within the bank.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes there are lots of opportunities to get invoked with outside of work such as company volunteering days to help the public. There are multiple employee led networks within the bank such as the Aspire network to which I am a member, the network focuses on allowing people in the bank no matter what stage on their career to go out expand there network meet others within the bank and attend regular social events and organised seminars. The apprentice programme itself also has events to which we get invites to attend.

  • Yes

  • Yes, I really enjoy working for RBS and there are many great opportunities in within the company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • I would say you need to want to do this, you need to want to start your own journey, its a great stepping stone to learn whilst you get paid. Be yourself during the application process, be calm in the interview and show the interviewers the real you. Take part in assessments days and grab every opportunity that comes your way!
