  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • -commercial vehicle apprentice technician -carry out routine vehicle maintenance i.e servicing, basic repairs, changing tyre etc.. -keep the workshop clean and generally help out where needed -supposedly learn as part of apprenticeship but the dealership has me making company profits on basic jobs rather than learning on more advanced jobs that I should be

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • learnt many new things in the first 8 months, all servicing routines and repairs up to and including replacing cambelts or removing a gearbox. but then got put onto sales work which is very boring (7 months ago) and haven't learnt anything since then outside of reading up on stuff myself or the week release collage training I go on

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • enjoyed it a lot in the first 8 months, got on very well with my mentor in and out of work, learnt lots of new stuff, then got split up and put onto working on my own and everything went downhill from there really

  • plenty from fellow technicians, the bare minimum from the employer themselves

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • just about covers living costs with couple of hundred left for personal use, have been getting massively over taxed and the government is making it very difficult for me to reclaim it. i'm currently owed over £1300 in tax rebate that I have not recived

    4/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • only the opportunities I make for myself, mainly having to do engine work on my own car with no support from my employer resulting in me being stuck with no transport for around a month and counting. (public transport where I live is minimal, buses run once an hour from 07:30 to 20:10 which severely limits use of my personal time

  • 9. Would you recommend Volkswagen Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • because they will learn a lot of relevant and interesting information, but I would NOT recommend the dealership I work at as a good place to work and learn

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Volkswagen Group?
  • be ready to go back to school
