  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work within Banking Operations dealing with corporate loans, clients and a variety of portfolios. We deal with investigations, client services and the maintenance of the drawdowns. I have a large team and department that all work well together. I also have the opportunity to take part in a range of projects as well as my BAU tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Every skill I have learnt at RBS was new to me. Skills I already possessed, such as teamwork etc, have been enhanced through my day to day job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the team I work with and the work I do. The scheme itself doesnt differ that much from a permanent member of staffs day so I wouldn't say that I enjoyed the scheme, more my BAU.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I get regular feedback from management and from the scheme however in such a large department, each one of us can feel under-appreicated from time to time.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that the scheme could be structured differently to push us further and to create more opportunities for the apprentices. Quite often people don't realise you are an apprentice as you do exactly the same work as others, which is a positive in many ways however on the other hand, it doesn't make the scheme seem as worthwhile as there is no differentiation between staff. The support meetings from our external provider are excellent and they can always be relied on if you are struggling with any aspect of the exams. I think overall the programme could have been organised differently as a lot was left down to the apprentices to organise of our own backs, which was difficult to begin with as this was everyone's first full time job. My team hierarchy and delegation are a 10/10 and always keep the operation running as smooth as possible.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The external provider delivers consistent support and extra sessions when necessary.

    8/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive excellent support from my manager and my mentor within the team. Additionally, all of the apprentices support each other within the scheme and are a really strong, collective working group.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • 6/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Whilst there are volunteering activites which we get given 3 days a year for, there are few company events and activities. These could be used to enhance teamwork however the operation can be so busy that there isn't time.

    5/10

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this organisation as I enjoy the department I work in.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Be prepared to work hard and to be part of a large team. Be confident in voicing your opinion as there is always a struggle to be heard.
