  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am OMS Control Room FLM. Me and my team provide the data for the operation to be able to performance manage colleagues and spot continuous improvement activities are suggest these be rolled out. Liaise with the customer around operational targets and Shift managers around capabilities.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained the knowledge of both operational requiremants and resource planning and how from an office perspective we can influence some great results and cost savings from the warehouse shop floor. My overall confidence has grown from the continuing new people I am introduced to.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is really helping me with my English skills where I have always struggled to use the correct grammar and my Maths is also improving as a result of this course. My ability to see CI opportunities is also increasing just from the training we are receiving as part of this course.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by DHL?
  • DHL has helped me gain valuable experience and life skills. Our opinions are taken on board and we feel valued by our line managers. DHL gives to the community and welcomes our ideas around corporate social responsibility and what we can do to raise money for the less fortunate, this also gives me a sense of pride.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure has been very stop start so far with trying to cramn different subjects in quite frequently. The health and safety day was quite slow and although I understand the importance of health and safety, wasn't something I was expecting to be doing as part of this course and may need reviewing.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider is always encouraging us through and sessions and gives valuable support when needed to aid us with any difficult situations we may find ourselves in. I had a struggling session with Maths and circumferences but [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] and another pupil helped me through this and I feel I now understand what I previously didn't.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is due to give me 8 hours a week and at present this isn't the case as I am involved heavily in the start up and implementation of a project. Once this is complete my line manager has said I am able to study for longer periods as part of the agreement with the apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My current salary is not the best and I am well aware that I could receive a higher salary if I was to change jobs and move away from DHL. alternatively I have the knowledge within my current role that will enable me to progress further within the company which ultimately is something I would like to do. I still feel that we are around three thousand pound a year short as managers.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We recently donated easter eggs to less privileged children and raised nearly 200 eggs from staff donations on site. After Bradley lowery passed away we all wore football shirts as a way to remember him and raise money for the Bradley Lowery foundation. As a site we raised nearly 400 pound something which DHL matched and also contributed to the same fund.

  • 9. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • DHL is a global brand and definitely the employer of choice as they have set out to be. Although recently they have had some bad press with the KFC problem they are a great company to work for and there is always something going on externally away fromn work which is backed by DHL.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • Come to the interview with Passion, a Can do attitude for what you are capable of doing and what you want to achieve. Interviews are very laid back and stress free with DHL which is very comforting if you are trying to get a job and want a stress free interview. The recruitment process is smooth thanks to People Services being centralized and standardized, all part of the DHL culture.
