  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Corporate Assistant, daily tasks involve going out to different client sites and reviewing their financeial statements to ensure compliant with the applicable reporting standards.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently working towards ACA, being a chartered accountant. We have also had numerous in house training courses, these range from updates on various sectors that we audit to how we should interact with the client. I have also learnt how to communicate professionally with clients and how IT can be used as a tool to perform my daily tasks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I feel as though the scheme is very good, you are treated in the same way as a graduate and given the same opportunities. The teams I work with are mainly young people and have found friendships in the work place.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mazars LLP?
  • I feel as though the appraisal scheme at Mazars needs to be widened, this is something that has been brought up as part of quarterly meetings. There is a lack of internal recognition, there is limited feedback on jobs until September when the appraisals take place.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It has been well structured, in terms of the qualification that I am completing. The firm took a new approach on the student training in the prior year and I feel as though I had experienced a few issues with this. I feel with exams, what should be a stress free experience is made to be more stressful by only 2 individuals looking after the whole of the school leavers and graduates training.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The tuition is provided by BPP, I feel as though the taught courses are excellent and cannot fault the teaching at the college. Some of our courses are home study and I feel these lack support, there is an option to post on an online forum but there is no contact with an actual teacher until two weeks before the exam.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel well supported at work, I don't have that much contact with my own line manager but feel if I did have any issues then I would be able to contact some at work. The general attitude towards support is that everyone is approachable and everyone is willing to help.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel as though the salary more than exceeded my expectations, as I am mainly out on client sites I am able to claim mileage which covers the travel costs to and from work.

    9/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • In the workplace I have made a number of friends who I see regularly outside work, this is not organised by Mazars. At Mazars we have just started to have regular meetings in which have a social event after.

  • 9. Would you recommend Mazars LLP to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel as though the training scheme is a great opportunity, it means I will become a chartered accountant quicker than what I would if I had gone to university and I'm also earning a very good salary at the same time. The job has given me the opportunity to meet different people and to get exposure to what various industries are like.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mazars LLP?
  • The Mazars website is so useful in preparing for the application & interview. There is a lot of advice on there for anyone wishing to apply. The process of application has changed a little since I started and there is now a mentoring group, so once you reach the assessment centre stage there is an opportunity to contact someone who works at Mazars to gain further insight about the company and tips for the day.
