Trainee Tax Advisor Review

My job title is a trainee tax advisor. Some daily tasks I am involved in include billing clients, setting up files, drafting and amending emails for clients, and also getting involved in bigger projects and going out on site to meet clients.

I have learnt many new skills, most prominently in communication, as I am constantly sending emails both internalyy and externally, and having these checked by more senior members of staff. Also, my people interaction, confindence and public speaking skills have vastly improved as I have been using these a lot over the past few months.

I am enjoying my programme a lot, as the team and company culture are excellent. The work is beginning to get better and more interesting due to my experience growing, so it's only uphill from here!

I feel very valued by EY, and definitely like I am part of the team. Everyone is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and you are involved in all team meetings and events that everyone else is involved in.

I believe that the programme is well structured, as we have been told when our time in college, and exams will be, and also have quarterly meetings with our counsellors to make sure we are on track.

We recieve regular emails from ICAEW, but they are not always specifically tailored to our qualification, and they may just be general emails.

The managers here at EY are very good at giving support and always making sure you feel like you're not on your own!

For me personally, the salary is good as I still live at home and don't have too many living costs, and my parents are keeping my board low. For some of my friends however, that have moved from other cities for the job, they are spending a lot of money on their living costs (upwards of half their monthly wage).

There are lots of events and dinners put on by many organisations both within EY and outside of it. These can be things like beer tasting evenings, cookery classes, or balls.

I would reccomend EY as I think all the people who work here are incredibly friendly and genuine, and everyone seems to get on.

Be confident and yourself, but don't show off and try and get the upper hand on other people.
