  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Data and Statistics division of the bank. I communicate with firms and process files.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Honestly the only new thing I have really learnt is how to use new features on Excel and perhaps a little bit more about what the bank does. There seems to be a gap in teaching useful skills that will benifit

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • There are aspects that I do enjoy, I like the relaxed atmosphere and the staff are normally very helpful.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Bank of England?
  • Honestly I feel like we are replaceable, the work we are made do is mostly admin and we are not really offered a chanv=ce to voice an opinion around the bank.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our program is internal and to be honest just seems to be a bit of a mess with not much support or actual teaching. If anything its a bit pointless. With an hour long presentation and then the expectation that will be enough to teach you to use a coding software. It is also made worse by the fact we got no choice in the division r course that we were placed on. I would prefer to work and then to apply for the degree levy in economics at the end of the first year.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is an option to speaking to people around the bank but as it is not an official course there isn't really a provider.

    4/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Again that varies with the course I don't think the teaching is great, but in a work perspective my line manager could not be more supportive with me achieving what I want and to get to a field that I want my career to be in. It is the program itself that seems to prevent this.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For an apprenticeship the pay of £19000 base is actually pretty good and there are some decent benefits to go along with this.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The bank runs a lot of programs and volunteering opportunities that are possible to apply before as long as you can make the time.

    7/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Bank of England to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • If you can get into the right division perhaps as a graduate or from another company then there is a lot of potential that you will learn and progress. However as a school leaver you get thrown into a division in a job and course that could in something that has never interested you and you know nothing about so I'm not sure whether I would recommend joining the program.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bank of England?
  • I would suggest going to university first and applying for a graduate position. I would also suggest that they make it clear to you especially if you apply for the school leaver program that you get the information on the division, team and course they plan to put you in early on so you can decide if its right for you without it being to late.
