  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As I am a first year apprentice, I spend two weeks doing either courses or sections (all of which go towards my NVQ) and then spend one week in college. The sections and courses are all engineering related just like the college courses which we do as well.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There are various engineering related skills which I have developed in the areas of Dressing Aircraft Engines, Hand Fitting and Electronics as well as additional pieces of training that are provided by the company too. They are both beneficial to us as individuals and to the company if we eventually go on into the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Although at first the workload was larger than expected, particularly in the college aspects but eventually the load spreads but and it is much less stressful and more manageable. The work that needs to be carried out on section is manageable within the time frames provided which is expected.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Rolls-Royce?
  • Despite there being a wide variety of individuals on the same course, I still feel rather valued by people in higher roles than me as an individual and as an apprentice. And although it is expected, it is very beneficial to enjoying your apprenticeship.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was not fully outlined when we initially begun the apprenticeship and think that that is something which should be looked at as that way, particularly when planning things for the future, it is beneficial to the individual.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Although we do not hear much from out employer, the support is reasonable enough.

    7/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As a 17 year old, my costs are very limited and so the pay that I receive is easily enough to cover everything.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a few opportunities that relate to work which do not happen within work although, these could be outlined and made more apparent if they are of importance.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As it is a great opportunity and rather easy to manage amongst other aspects of your life.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
  • Ensure that you are prepared for the various aspects of the job and are not just going for the practical parts as the college aspect is just as important.
