  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Title: Fraud IT Consultant/Developer Daily Tasks: Shadowing Java API developers as well as coding some myself. Due to previous placements, I have gained the knowledge to make sure that the bank is using our best practice policies. Daily Interactions: As I take part in agile projects, I have daily standups with my team to explain what I am getting up to in the day and where I need assistance. As I am working closely with developers on projects I am furthering my knowledge with the software development cycle. Daily Interactions Externally: External interactions occur with third parties. As This is a back-end, agent facing area, I do not have any interaction with the customers. Responsibilities: I have set tasks that I am give to complete by the project manager, as well as deadlines that I need to complete them for. These range from large to small. They could be a small bug fix in some code, or could be a large UI change that I need to help re-design. Projects: Primarily an obsolescence project which is a business defined project. What do I do everyday? I answer emails, move between sites in MK, code with the other project developers and define what needs to be done with the sprint squad during Backlog refinement meetings .

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have progress a lot in my social skills (Way I interact with new people, vocabulary etc) and have gained a lot of confidence in the way I represent myself also. My knowledge of the digital world has progressed as I am constantly exposed to the way technology is moving and the way the bank needs to move with it. My software development skills have improved a lot. Before I started I only had a basic knowledge of Python. Now I am proficient with Python, Java and SQL. I also wish to further my software skills with exposure to the Data Lake, C++ and API's

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The has helped a lot in setting me up for the working environment. I have learned double what I could have learned in the 7 months here, to a year at University. The staff here are welcoming and treat you like a genuine member of staff, not just someone that can get the coffees. The support here is also really good. You really feel like you can get help from anywhere if you need it.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a really good place to work. I don't know about other places but Santander is a place that has a really good culture that makes everyone of their staff feel valued.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Santander?
  • Just be yourself. The interviews are there to see if your personality matches that of what we look for here at Santander. If you pretend to be someone you're not, then it is not going to help yourself or the company. The interviewers will see right through the façade if you put one up.
