  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my current role, I work as the 'Undergraduate Programmes Assistant'. In this role, I am responsible for the recruitment of all the undergraduates at Vauxhall who are completing their year long placement.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained confidence, interpersonal skills and time management. I have lots of opportunities to get involved with different projects around the business, which gives me exposure, knowledge and different experiences in the business. I also attend university as a part of my apprenticeship and am working towards gaining a BA Hons in Business Management.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is fantastic. I get to experience so many different parts of the business, whilst gaining a degree. Any queries are dealt with immediately, and are taken seriously by our Student Programmes Leader. It is a brilliant apprenticeship and would highly recommend it to others.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Stellantis?
  • I have a very real role with very real responsibilities! I am valued at the same levels as other employees, and have a great deal of responsibility as I am solely responsible for the recruitment of our undergraduates. We have a performance management system, which helps myself and my manager set and track my goals, performance, behaviours and personal development.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is amazing. Each year we get to rotate roles and experience different parts of the business. We also have a mentoring system, which allows us to share any concerns we have, but it also allows us to have a friend in the workplace who we can talk to about our next steps in the apprenticeship and get advice.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Vauxhall's support is great - any queries or questions we have get answered immediately. Support from the university isn't as brilliant - some queries get ignored or it takes a long time to get answered. However, Vauxhall are very supportive in helping push the university to answer our queries.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary isn't as high as most competitors salaries for apprentices. It allows me to live comfortably at home, but I will struggle to move out any time soon. I am able to save around £200 each month, which is fantastic, but will still take a very long time to save for a house deposit! I can also imagine for students who have had to relocate, that they will not be able to save at all - I think we really need to be aligned with competitors.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We have CSR days (Corporate Social Responsibility) which allows all employees of Vauxhall to go out of the office on a day out to different charity or volunteering events. This may be a visit to a farm to help clear up new spaces for animals, to wrapping and delivering Christmas presents to less fortunate children and families.

  • 9. Would you recommend Stellantis to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a fantastic opportunity to earn whilst you learn. Vauxhall are very supportive in your apprenticeship. Like no other, Vauxhall encourages apprentices to rotate in their roles every year, so in theory you are able to experience four different departments within the business.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stellantis?
  • The application process is smooth and easy, with the help of Vauxhall recruitment. You simply fill in an application form and attach your CV and cover letter. The interview process is good too - they ask more about yourself and your culture fit to Vauxhall. They may also ask a competency question. You will then be invited to an assessment centre - this can be nerve wracking, but the best thing to do is remain calm, confident and show the assessors how much you want the job! Background research on the company to show your interest in Vauxhall is massively appreciated.
