Project Controls Apprentice Review

My job role as an apprentice specifies in Project Controls. My daily tasks will consist of working within departments such as Risks, Estimating, Costs and Trend & Change. My work is done using a computer when in the office at Bridgewater House. My responsibility is to make sure my work I am doing is accurate and correct for the department I am working in. Every day within my job role is different. The job role itself is very diverse and can open many gateways to work within different projects around the world.

I have learned how to use Microsoft Excel to a high standard for creating tables and spread sheets for the Estimating and Cost departments. I have developed a much more independent view with getting my work done and a bigger more motivated drive with making sure my work is correct.

I really enjoy how different every day is when it comes to work. The teams here within the business are very welcoming and easy to get on with and I feel very comfortable within the second I enter my work place. The company, work place and job role itself has all lived up higher to my expectations and I am very happy and glad to be part of such a big project.

I feel very valued by EDF as an apprentice as I feel I am the future of the company when it comes to Project Controls. I have been made very involved in the project very quickly and it has been a lot to take in but I am enjoying it and feel I am important to the company.

Our programme has been very finely structured. I feel our induction to EDF Energy and our job role was very welcoming and took a lot of weight off my shoulders with nerves and gave me a very good understanding of my job role and what is expected of me for the next 3 years of my apprenticeship. Our college enrolment has also been a fantastic welcoming and I feel very comfortable with how the course has been made and how it is going. I feel I have settled very quickly and well with the other 7 apprentices and I am happy to feel involved with the group for the course of this apprenticeship scheme.

We receive a very well proportion of help and training from our line manager. Our college lecturer is also very good with giving us guidance to our assignments set to give us a better understanding to what tasks we need to carry out to successfully complete this course. I have enjoyed the help given and I am very appreciative of those who have made us feel settled with our job and gave us a good understanding of what we are required to do.

Our employer have been very supportive with the welcoming of our course and have given us a financial benefit with giving us £1000 a year in monthly instalments to help cover our transport costs. I feel this is a very big and kind gesture from the company that was a nice way to greet and welcome us apprentices to our new course.

my salary meets me in very good way. my monthly pay manages to cover my living costs and daily costs with some money left over to last the month and enough for me to be able to treat myself to something. with the company giving us instalments every month to help cover transport it lessens my costs by just under half of what I would have to pay without it so I benefit from it massively.

There are many opportunities outside of work with Company activities near the Christmas period and events at schools and colleges to get people on board with the new apprenticeship schemes in which after my first year as an apprentice I could reflect on what I have learnt to encourage youngsters to take on the role I am doing to look further into a career.

I would recommend EDF Energy to a friend because it is a journey to starting a career. You are given such a big opportunity to work on a massive project and progress to a level of your choice.

If I had to give advice to others applying for EDF energy I'd definitely recommend getting on board with an apprenticeship scheme. You are being paid to work but also to learn and achieve good qualifications in the outcome that can help you progress even higher within the company and further qualifications are available to masters level.
