  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • During my 5-day work experience in the international commercial law firm Pinsent Masons, I had sat in 3 different departments; litigation, pensioning and property. For litigation I was given multiple tasks, such as drafting a legal letter that would be sent to the client, doing legal research, making my own hierarchy of the courts and analysing different case studies. In pensioning I looked at Pensions Ombudsman and I analysed many different of them and summarised them. In property I read through simple transactions and leaseholds which will be presented in the LPC. I also had the opportunity to go to one of the largest High Courts in Manchester and was able to make amendments to my CV with my supervisor.

  • Many new skills; this includes writing CVs and Personal Statements effectively, gained an insight into the role of solicitors and networking. I also improved on my presentation skills and my communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much. It was lovely to stick together in a team of 5 other students and work alongside eachother. It met my expectations and exceeded it beyond limits; I would go back and do it all over again anyday. I enjoyed it beyond words; the culture of the company was very down to earth and fun to work with.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Pinsent Masons?
  • Very much. We were provided with vouchers to eat, given lots of advice in many ways, offered help constantly while working, we were given freedom and treated like mature adults. People shook my hand and spoke to me and offered their time for me despite how busy they may be and this is dedication that should be appreciated.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was very organised. We were notified of any updates immediately and were instructed clearly. It began well, with welcome packs and simple things to cope within the workplace such as pens and door passes and name tags. We were supported thoroughly and the programme was planned effectively.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • It was fair enough however they proved to be less active, at least during the programme. It did not waver my overall experience however.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot, as previously stated, I am constantly guided, spoken to, supported with resources and conversations and they made me enjoy it all the more.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Well; it was a mere 35 minute walk there and back. Nice location.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Not many but this is not a problem as it was 5 days and nothing more so the other work experience students and myself would stay in one of the meeting rooms and commence icebreaker sessions, in essence.

    10/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It was a great firm; it proved itself very quickly. They always meet their core values; approachable, bold and connected, aka 'ABC'. It was a lovely office environment that was active and not a dull stereotypical type of office. It was also modernised and vibrant.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • I would tell them to genuinely make the most of it and tell them they will miss it like crazy once they are finished; this, within 5 days.
