  • 4. How valued do you feel by Leonardo?
  • Extremely valued. All staff are very friendly and helpful as many of them were once apprentices themselves so know what it is like. I am always included in discussion to do with the current project happening in my area.

When we start we are given a Placement Plan showing what departments we will be working in throughout the apprenticeship, however there have been some minor changes to this plan.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We receive a tremendous amount of support, anyone that I am aware of who has asked for any additional support has got it set up right away. All lecturers want to help and assist you ensuring you are comfortable with a subject before pressing on. I have had no issues with college so far.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The apprenticeship salary is very generous, I know other apprenticeship schemes for a similar type of work are paid much less. The company also has additional benefits such as working of Flexitime meaning travel costs are less as I can miss peak rush hour traffic. We also gain benefits such as saving money on a number of retailers, experiences and holidays.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • During our apprenticeship we are signed up to be STEM ambassadors so we can educate and inspire younger generations out width the company. Leonardo also has events running regularly onsite and offsite the apprentices volunteer to help out. We gain free membership to Edinburgh Leisure so can take advantage of their facilities after work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Leonardo?
  • Practice your presentation as you are given a set time to present it, you do not want to fall short or go way over the expected time given. It is important to stand out in a good way; show interest, ask questions and leave an overall good impression.
