Delivery Assurance Apprentice Review

I am the Delivery Assurance apprentice, at the moment I am still learning about the company, what they do and how I fit into the picture. I am also learning how to use their business systems and other programmes they use on a daily basis. I only have a few meetings a week with various people but its good to learn names and faces and what others do, so if I need their help I wont be scared to ask. At the moment I am not really working specifically on any projects or responsible for much as I am still fairly new. But I know when I am up to speed I will be very involved in First time pass rates, and will be responsible to get those numbers to report up each month.

I have learnt how to adjust my attitude and personality around others and how to be appropriate within the work place, as I have changed environments from an old-school factory on the shop floor to an office based job. I am in the progress of learning the people here and how to communicate with each one, as obviously not everyone will be as understanding of my apprenticeship, what I need and how I want it. I will be on a Green Belt training to drive continuous improvement within the company but that isn't due for a few months yet. I will also be hopefully starting a HNC in September too, which will help me to have more knowledge in more specifics than year 2 at college.

I really enjoy it here, the team I am with are all different and it definitely brings some challenges but it is also rewarding because we can solve issues effectively as we have different thought processes. Even though that could be bad the communication is generally ok, so its no problem. The company is also great too, the company culture is amazing. There is so much trust and co-operation and has such a family type vibe. I wasn't really sure what to expect as I wasn't really to sure what my job title meant.. I thought it was to do with the stores and packing, whoops! so it was a good surprise to find out what I am actually doing.

I feel like I am valued but at the minute as I am not contributing too much towards the company I don't think this is it highest potential. I feel that maybe when I start my secondments and start collecting data that it would improve. Again, I haven't really achieved too much so I haven't experienced any achievements to celebrate but I know that there are systems in place to reward for those.

We are actually trying to create it, as I am the first Delivery Assurance apprentice there isn't really any structure right now. The induction to the company was okay, pretty standard. The majority of the training was previously done so there isn't too much left to do. They have been supporting towards me and trying to understand what I need to do to complete the NVQ and how we can do it here. We are also trying to configure a mentor system, at the moment I have my line manager in the office and a mentor for a specific business system and the first time pass rate stuff. The team hierarchy is pretty clear and I understand how it works, though I get a little confused when it comes to my career path and how this fits in the company & team hierarchy. But hopefully after all our hard work it enables me to complete the NVQ which in my eyes is organised well.

Since starting at the new company the support has been amazing, I have all the contact deatails of my work based assessor and have used them to communicate between reviews. I have also just joined a maths bridging course to enable me to do the HNC and the training provider has been more than happy to help me enrol and to catch up and get to speed with the other students.

My line-manager is so supportive, I appreciate he is busy a lot of the time but he makes time for me no matter how small the question. The HR team have been great, they have helped me with so much in my personal and work life, and they always keep in touch to check that I am doing okay. My mentor is a very smiley guy and is literally happy to help, will always help me out if I need it. They all seem so welcome to helping me, I just need to ask, or book some time with them in their calendar, its so easy and is generally always helpful. So far I haven't come across anyone who doesn't want to help or be supporting in what I am doing so its all good.

It is better than my pervious company and I genuinely cant complain. Its not like I can live stress free or anything but I am able to afford to insure my car, fuel, oils etc. I am not able to rent a place yet but I would be able to once I have a deposit together (its just saving and not spending...and I'm not too good at that) I feel like its a good pay check and I just need to manage it better.

I haven't really experienced any activities outside of work but I am aware that they do volley ball and tennis after work on a weekly basis. They have also recently held an event with lots of tech and pizza, so I guess that went well. I personally don't tend to socialise with people so I wouldn't go out of my way to find out what I don't want to do.

Its a great company, pays well, cares lots. Good way to start a career by doing an apprenticeship. A bunch of company benefits and the people are GREAT!

I didn't travel down the traditional route to work here, I was the only applicant to a job that didn't exist. But once I signed the contract I haven't been treated any differently, I went though all the bog standard inductions and stuff. though I will say it took l3 a while to get back to me if they wanted to take me on or not. It has been a good few months and I would really recommend that they should at least apply to get an interview. your life can either stay the same or improve massively.
