  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as an IT Consultant, and my work is project based. This means the role I have is dependent on the project I am currently working on. I currently work as a business analyst, gathering requirements from the client, holding workshops and playback sessions. I have also worked as an application consultant, assisting internal teams respond to proposals, educating execs and supporting projects.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The day to day work is great, and I have enjoyed working in some very exciting and accomodating teams. The nature of project work means that sometimes generating revenue must be put before personal goals, which can be frustrating but is understandable from a business perspective. The apprenticeship exceeds my expectations

  • 4. How valued do you feel by IBM?

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From the IBM side, the course is well structured, effective, and I receive all the support I need. There are lots of opportunities to meet individuals on other schemes and attend events. Reporting to a dedicated Early professional Manager is very beneficial to get the level of help needed.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • On the whole, the university course is good. However, due to being very new, the university course is still being developed, and is improving over time as difficulties are addressed. The quality of teaching can differ from module to module. The feedback we have provided has been addressed, and improvements have been made.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary package just about covers my costs, however strict budgeting is required. There is potentially opportunity for payrises throughout the apprenticeship, however at this moment in time a salary review has not occured. If business travel away from the office is required, this is covered by IBM

    7/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • IBM encourages growth and improvement by working on interesting projects using ground breaking technology

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?

For assessment days, relax and remember you are being assessed on how you would fit in with the workplace, not how dominating ou are in the conversation.
