  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As in still working through rotational placements, I do not have a set job role yet. In my current placement, I am working on a project that involves me carrying out various research tasks and communicating with a wide variety of people across the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Still working towards gaining a HNC in Engineering Systems at college through day release. Have received very little training courses through the company over the last year so the skills and knowledge that have been built have been through each placement.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Everyone I have come across has been very friendly and helpful. I personally do not like moving placements and learning a job from the beginning every 3 months. I have enjoyed the majority of placements once I get settled and have picked up the basics of the job.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Leonardo?
  • There are employees who give more feedback than others on the job I've been doing. Majority feedback from apprentice management comes through quarterly review meetings rather than outwith these meetings. Line managers sometimes give more frequent feedback.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • A good structure is set out by the apprentice management, although changes occur over the course of the 4 year plan. Placements can differ from being very well structured to appearing very disorganised. Some placements have set a set desk of apprentices and set work of them to do where as other do not. I had to hot desk for a 3 month placement due to not being given a set desk.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As our training provider and employer are the same, the overall support we receive is good. They are always there to meet with if anything needs to be discussed. I feel I've required very little support from them.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel the pay is okay and is enough to cover my costs such as phone bill, gym membership, running a car however I would struggle if I had to rent a flat. It would be good to have an opportunity to earn a bonus through the apprenticeship scheme for those to excel. At present everyone is the apprentice year group is paid the same regardless of their ability or attitude towards work.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are some opportunities outside of work for those who volunteer. Whereas a lot of opportunities are offered to everyone, I feel there are some that are not offered to everyone and the same people keep getting these opportunity, especially ones where the media are involved.
