Business Apprentice Review

I am a business apprentice in production/material planning. My role involves ensuring there is material available production.

I am currently doing my HNC Business Administration and have successfully completed my SVQ Level 3 Business Administration. I am constantly learning about various processes used within my department through watching and doing tasks. My skills in excel have improved as there is not a day goes by where I don't use it. I also use the SAP software system which was challenging at first to get my head around but with guidance from managers in my department, I am now getting to grips with it. The company are very supportive and offer a lot of both on-the-job and off-the-job training. My communication skills have also improved immensely since starting. For example, I now attend production meetings on behalf of my manager which involves providing the data for the meeting in a clear report format and reporting on department activities.

I love my job and the department I work in. The company overall has a really positive attitude towards apprentices. One thing I was impressed at, was that we are delegated work which doesn't fit the typical apprentice stereotype. We are working on real projects which churn out products that go to very important customers.

I feel very valued by my manager, the apprentice team and the overall company. Apprentices are at the heart of the company and management are willing to delegate meaningful work which may not stereotypically be given as an apprentice's job. This provides us with more confidence which in turn improves our training.

As a business apprentice, it is typically down to the business managers to provide a structured programme. My manager is very supportive and has provided a structured training plan and is very good at delegating work.

As a business apprentice, it is typically down to the business managers to provide support. We have very little to do with the apprentice management team.

I am made to feel like no question I ask is stupid. If I ask for help I am always given it. The company are very supportive.

My salary meets my costs very well.

There aren't any opportunities outside of work apart from the annual apprentice Christmas night out.
